Geneva, 4 September 2024: Wizz Air Holdings Plc (“Wizz Air”), one of the most sustainable European airlines, has announced a new direct route from Milan to Abu Dhabi, the first route to be confirmed for the airline’s new Airbus A321XLR (Extra Long Range) aircraft.

The aircraft will be based in Milan Malpensa, and from 2 Jun 2025 Wizz Air will operate the new direct route between Milan and Abu Dhabi as a daily service, a flight over 7 hours, making it more accessible than ever before with fares that are 70% lower than the current competitors’ offer. This is the first Wizz Air route to leverage the Airbus A321XLR’s extended range and efficiency, which has the potential to revolutionize intercontinental travel. The strategic decision to base the Airbus A321XLR in Milan reflects Wizz Air’s commitment to strengthen its Italian network and expand its reach.

Speaking at a press conference in Milan earlier today, József Váradi, CEO of Wizz Air, said: “The Airbus A321XLR is the most cost-efficient aircraft of its class and, given the enhanced range capability, it enables Wizz Air to connect the furthest destinations in its network and further expand it, connecting cultures and continents. Wizz Air is anticipating the delivery of 8 Airbus A321XLR aircraft in CY2025, of a total of 47 on order.
