Maldivian strengthens regional fleet with arrival of new ATR 42-600 Aircraft
Maldivian, is proud to announce the arrival of its newest addition to the fleet, a fourth ATR 42-600 aircraft, which landed on 8 May, 2024. To commemorate this milestone, a special ceremony was held at Velana International Airport which was attended by distinguished guests, officials and key partners.
The new aircraft will enhance Maldivian’s capacity to serve more routes and provide increased connectivity for both locals and tourists. This expansion reflects Maldivian’s commitment to offering exceptional service and convenience to its passengers. With state-of-the-art technology, increased efficiency, and exceptional comfort, the aircraft aligns perfectly with Maldivian’s vision of delivering world class service.
During the event, Maldivian’s Managing Director, Mr. Ibrahim Iyas, emphasized the importance of the new aircraft in the company’s growth strategy. “We have made great strides toward achieving both operational excellence and a greater passenger experience with the addition of this brand-new ATR aircraft to our fleet. This aircraft offers an unprecedented level of comfort thanks to improved interior humidity control and much lower noise levels. Modern avionics and exceptional fuel economy which further support our dedication to sustainability while maximizing performance throughout our expanding network. We are pleased to welcome this cutting-edge aircraft and are optimistic that it will improve connectivity and reliability of our service across the Maldives.”
Event attendees were given an exclusive tour of the aircraft, showcasing the spacious cabin, advanced navigation systems and environmentally friendly design. With this new aircraft, Maldivian is poised to meet the growing demand for air transportation as these aircraft are well suited for the short domestic sectors within the Maldives.
This is part of the initiative led by Maldivian to further enhance aviation infrastructure. The addition of the fourth ATR 42-600 aircraft is a significant step towards achieving the Maldivian government’s goal of expanding air travel options in the Maldives.
As of now, Maldivian fleet has 25 aircrafts. This includes an Airbus A320 aircraft, four ATR aircraft, nine Dash-8 series aircraft and eleven Twin Otter seaplanes. These new ATR aircraft are set to phase out the dash-8 series and marks another step forward in modernization of the Maldivian fleet.
