BNDES approves R$ 2.1 billion for Embraer to export 16 planes to the United States
Financing through Exim Post-Boarding will support Republic Airways’ investment plan for the acquisition of the E-175 model
The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) approved financing in the amount of R$ 2.1 billion for Embraer to export 16 E-175 aircraft to the North American airline Republic Airways, which operates exclusively with aircraft from the Brazilian manufacturer.
The financing takes place through BNDES Exim Post-Boarding and will cover a portion of the airline’s total investment. The aircraft will be delivered by Embraer throughout 2025 and the Republic (importer) will assume the commitment to pay in dollars to BNDES, generating foreign exchange in this currency for Brazil.
Republic Airways is one of the largest regional airlines in the USA. The company operates a fleet of more than 200 Embraer E-170 and E-175 and offers regular service for passengers with 900 daily flights in more than 80 cities in the US and Canada, under the brands American Eagle, Delta Connection and United Express.
“BNDES’s historic support for Embraer contributed to transforming the company into one of the global leaders in the aerospace industry. Embraer is the main exporter of high value-added goods in Brazil and maintains more than 87% of its approximately 21,000 jobs in national territory,” says the President of the Bank, Aloizio Mercadante
“The performance of BNDES is essential to maintain the competitiveness of the Brazilian industry, serving as a tool to boost the country in the international market. This strategic support strengthens our position on the global scenario, diversifying financing alternatives and enabling Embraer to compete in the foreign market on equal terms with our competitors,” says Embraer’s president and CEO, Francisco Gomes Neto.
Since 1997, the year of BNDES’ first support for Embraer, the bank has financed about US$ 26 billion for the export of more than 1,300 aircraft from the manufacturer. In the period, the contracted operations allowed the company to compete in the foreign market on equal terms with its competitors. The bank’s support complements the financing provided by the private market.
The director of Productive Development, Innovation and Foreign Trade of BNDES, José Luís Gordon, highlights the importance of the operation approved by the bank at the beginning of the year. “We opened 2025 supporting Embraer in this important transaction, reinforcing the presence of the national industry in the foreign market and making a valuable contribution to the Brazilian trade balance, following the pattern seen in President Lula’s government of increasing exports of manufactured goods.”
A global aerospace company based in Brazil, Embraer has business in the areas of commercial and executive aviation, Defense & Security and agricultural aviation. The company designs, develops, manufactures and markets aircraft and systems, providing services and support to customers in the after-sales.
